Due to inflation, the value of brass as a material had risen, so the diameter and weight of the coin were reduced compared to the previous large 50-sen brass coin, and the designs on both sides were also changed.
This is the first Japanese coin to feature the official name “日本国/日本國” in its design.
Furthermore, as inflation continued to rise, production was discontinued in 1948.
