The large 50-sen brass coin is a temporary auxiliary currency made of brass with a diameter of 23.5 mm, issued between 1946 (Showa 21) and 1947 (Showa 22). Produced against the backdrop of postwar shortages, it is characterized by a design featuring a phoenix. Coins dated 1947 (Showa 22) are considered rare and may command very high prices on the market.
