This “Old Coin Medal Series” is a set of proof coins issued by the Japan Mint starting in 1999 (Heisei 10). Each set contains a pure silver commemorative medal featuring a design based on a rare Japanese “old coin” from the past.
The second installment features a pure silver commemorative plate modeled after the “Meiji 7 1-yen silver coin.” The year of issuance, 2000 (Heisei 11), marked the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 2000s, making it a significant milestone. Consequently, this coin set attracted considerable attention.
