These silver coins were issued to commemorate the enforcement of Japan’s Local Autonomy Law.
Each of the 47 prefectures has its own unique design.

Tokyo coins feature the Tokyo Tower, Rainbow Bridge, and Yurikamome.

Tokyo Tower
Tokyo Tower opened in 1958 (Showa 33). It stands 333 meters tall. It was registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property in 2013 (Heisei 25).

Rainbow Bridge
Rainbow Bridge opened in 1993 (Heisei 5). The suspension bridge section is 918 meters long. It is a double-deck suspension bridge: the upper deck carries the Metropolitan Expressway Route 11 Daiba Line, while the lower deck carries the Rinkō Road and the Yurikamome new transit system.

Yurikamome
The Yurikamome seagull is designated as the bird of the people of Tokyo.
