The front of the coin depicts the Tohoku Shinkansen東北 (E5 series).
The Tohoku Shinkansen is a high-speed Shinkansen railway line connecting Tokyo and Shin-AOMORI.
There are a total of nine types of 100 yen coins commemorating the opening of the Shinkansen.
The number of coins issued to commemorate the Tohoku Shinkansen is 2,304,000.
