One of two types of coins minted to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Emperor Heisei reign.
On the obverse of the coin, at the top, paulownia and birch leaves are depicted. In the middle is paulownia, and on the left and right are birches. Paulownia is the emblem of Emperor Heisei, and birch is the emblem of the Empress.
In the center is a horse-drawn carriage dedicated to the Imperial Family, called the “Special Imperial Carriage”. There are currently four types of Imperial Carriage, and the one depicted this time is No.2 It was used in the wedding parade of Emperor Heisei and Empress. (The one depicted on the enthronement commemorative coin is No. 1.)
It is surrounded by a number of dots around the edge.
The reverse side of the coin is engraved with the year number, “The 30th year of the Emperor on the throne”, “500 yen”, and the words “Japan”.
In the center is the chrysanthemum crest, which is the family crest of the imperial family.
