Some Meiji-period gold and silver coins have diameters that differ from catalog values due to manufacturing methods.
Coins dated Meiji 3, 9, 10, and 13 exist.
A coin dated Meiji 25, produced for the Chicago World’s Fair, also exists, but only two were minted.

Since the reduced-size versions were produced as sample coins, the mintage and surviving quantities of all date varieties are extremely scarce. In particular, only two coins bearing the Meiji 25 date were produced for the Chicago World’s Fair.
