There are jagged edges on the sides, and only four places are shaped differently from the rest.
The reverse side is the same.
The design imitates the coins of the Edo period.
It is written in kanji as “local Autonomy” in four characters.
The year and “JAPAN 47PREFECTURES COIN PROGRAM” are engraved.
The obverse has a different design for each prefecture.
The Tokyo-type coins feature Tokyo Station and Gyoko-dori Avenue.
Tokyo Station has a brick station building, which is a symbol of Tokyo Station. However, it can only be seen from certain exits.
The station also has various commercial facilities, making it convenient for dining and souvenir shopping.
There are attractive tourist spots in the surrounding area, such as the Imperial Palace Outer Gardens and Marunouchi Building.
Gyoko-dori Avenue is a 190-meter-long, 73-meter-wide road connecting JR Tokyo Station, the front door of the capital city, with the Imperial Palace. It is a historic road used for imperial events and carriage processions for the presentation of credentials by foreign ambassadors. In autumn, it offers a spectacular view of the ginkgo trees lining the road.
