The design imitates the coins of the Edo period.
It is written in kanji as “local Autonomy” in four characters.
The year and “JAPAN 47PREFECTURES COIN PROGRAM” are engraved.
A latent image is placed in the center square.The obverse has a different design for each prefecture.
The photo shows a coin from Nara Prefecture.
Nara Prefecture was the capital of Japan until the 500~700s.
Trade with the Tang Dynasty (China at that time) was flourishing.
As a symbol of this, the ship used for trade, the “Tang Envoy Ship”, is depicted.
