The design imitates the coins of the Edo period.
It is written in kanji as “local Autonomy” in four characters.
The year and “JAPAN 47PREFECTURES COIN PROGRAM” are engraved.
The obverse has a different design for each prefecture.
The Gifu type depicts Shirakawa-go and Chinese milk vetch.
Shirakawa-go is a village lined with buildings with characteristic triangular roofs called “gassho-dukuri”, and is a famous tourist destination in this prefecture where the original scenery of Japan remains.
In particular, the snowy scenery is fantastic and wonderful.
Chinese milk vetch is the prefectural flower of Gifu Prefecture.
It is a plant of the legume family and blooms with pink flowers in spring.
