The front of the coin depicts the Sanyo Shinkansen山陽 (500 series ).
The Sanyo Shinkansen is a high-speed railroad connecting Shin-Osaka Station to Hakata Station.
There are a total of nine types of 100 yen coins commemorating the opening of the Shinkansen.
The number of coins issued to commemorate the Sanyo Shinkansen is 2,292,000.
