These silver coins were issued to commemorate the enforcement of Japan’s Local Autonomy Law.
Each of the 47 prefectures has its own unique design.
The coins of Nagano Prefecture feature “early summer scenery of Kamikochi,” “Kappa Bridge,” and “Hotaka Mountain Range.”
Kamikochi in Nagano Prefecture is a tourist destination known for its blue skies and beautiful scenery. During the summer, Kamikochi bustles with many tourists, including mountain climbers and hikers.
Kappa Bridge was first built in 1891 (Meiji 24). It is 37 meters long.
Located at an altitude of about 1,500 meters within the Chubu Mountain National Park, this bridge offers views of mountains such as Hotaka-dake and Yake-dake. It is one of the symbols representing Kamikochi.
Mount Hotaka is a mountain located in the Hida Mountains of the Chubu Sangaku National Park, with an elevation of 3,190 meters.
In addition to Mount Hotaka (3,190 meters), which is the third highest peak in Japan, other notable peaks include Mount Mae-Hotaka (3,090 meters), Mount Kita-Hotaka (3,106 meters), and Mount Nishi-Hotaka (2,909 meters). Mount Hotaka is listed as one of Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains and New 100 Famous Mountains, while Mount Nishi-Hotaka is listed as one of Japan’s 100 Famous Flower Mountains.
